2020 Alchemy Arktos 29 ST
As much as some of us would like to think we will go downhill riding every weekend, it is not always possible to get so deep and high in the backwoods to find those killer runs. So having an aggressive trail bike like the Alchemy Arktos 29ST that will open up all sorts of trail and singletrack opportunities and endlessly increase the fun factor.
The ST in the name actually refers to the “short travel” that this Arktos 29ST offers compared to the original Arktos 29. Instead of 140mm rear travel, the Arktos 29ST comes with 120mm, and 140mm up front. It makes this a super fun and fast full suspension trail bike. The modern geometry makes sure the bike remain balanced on fast technical runs, while the Alchemy Sine Suspension System keeps the bike climbing well with its ability to absorb small bumps. Even if the Arktos 29ST “only” has 120mm, you will be amazed at how well the suspension handles those burlier runs, thanks in large part to the progressive travel. In the first part, you’ll get that small bump absorption, which will then result in a middle section that offers the progression to avoid bottoming out on big hits. Finally, at the end, the Sine offers a touch of regression that will keep the rear wheel travel expertly tracking the ground keeping you in complete control.
Traction will never be a problem, especially when you combine the suspension with some 29 inch wheels that can work with 2.5 inch tires. After you get over just how sweet this ride is, you can start admiring how light it is for a full suspension monster. Made from lightweight but durable carbon, the Arktos 29ST offers a level of lateral stiffness that will be certain to transfer all your power when you are pushing up a Rocky Mountain-like climb. The 73mm threaded bottom bracket keeps the whole package real, and avoids that PF BB squeak that can drive a person mad on a quiet woodsy climb. Internal cable routing throughout will ensure a clean look and that your cables stay safe, including the dropper post cabling. The Arktos 29ST is 1x specific, and can accommodate up to a 38 tooth ring, while the rear end uses Super Boost 12×157 axle spacing. It has been designed for post mount disc brakes using a 160mm rotor.
Getting the most out of the types of trails you have everyday access to ride is what the Alchemy Arktos 29ST really is all about. It’s a fun trail bike that invites aggressive riding over all sorts of terrains. It’s available in four sizes in multiple build options, or as a frame to build up exactly as you would like.
