2020 Devinci Spartan Carbon 27
There is no question that mountain bikes in the past five to ten years have been going through a series of design revolution and “standard” updates. It can be confusing and a little hard to keep up with. Not too long ago, 26 inch wheels ruled, only to be supplanted by 29ers and now 27.5 inch wheels. We firmly believe that any one of these wheel options can put a smile on your face, but there is some magic in a neatly paired big travel frame with 27.5 inch wheels. The Devinci Spartan Carbon 27 is a prime example of just how sweet that sweet spot can be.
The Spartan family at Devinci fits into the enduro category, but as such can work really well for all mountain, and since they are practically bomb proof, can also hit the right numbers for a DH run. And since this is the carbon version of the Spartan 27, you will be in a position to enjoy the lower weight and excellent ride quality that will go along with that elite material. The frame will allow 27.5 inch with up to 2.6 inch tires, to guarantee the traction to keep you planted while railing the berms. Using the upper-end level of travel of 165mm in the rear and 170mm travel for the fork means the Devinci Spartan Carbon 27 will be up to the toughest types of DH trails that test your skill as well as the bike’s build. Using the split pivot mechanism will make it so that you can lower your position to make it quick and aggressive at low speeds and epically stable when you are slashing it on a steep downhill run. Yet thanks to the seat angle you’ll feel comfortable and even agile on the climbs.
The geometry has been designed to be aggressive without throwing over the edge. The modern geo can be adjusted to a high or low position using the adjustable flip chip. The flip flop pivot mechanism will make it so that you can lower your position to make it quick and aggressive at low speeds and epically stable when you are slashing it on a steep downhill run. Yet thanks to the seat angle you’ll feel comfortable and even agile on the climbs. The low standover height will do its bit to keep you planted since the low center of gravity will improve handling and make it easier for you to maneuver your body around as you negotiate obstacles. The fact that you can fit a 170mm dropper post will also help keep you free from interference. The frame also can fit up to a 36 tooth chainring up front.
Rolling with the Devinci Spartan Carbon 27 will give you that nice balance between downhill slayer and lithe climbing machine. You might be sweating by the time you get to the top of the mountain, but the ride back down will make it oh so worth it.
