2020 Evil Bikes The Offering
If it seems like the guys over at Evil keep on doing everything right with their designs, it’s because they are every bit as committed to crushing the trails as you are. It doesn’t hurt either that they are based in the Pacific Northwest, where some of the best and most intense trail riding is right in their backyard. With The Offering you’ll find that they have balanced the best qualities of The Following and the Wreckoning, and created a 29er with 140mm rear travel that feels like it can take on anything Whistler’s got.
What is pretty special about the designers at Evil is that they really, really believe they are creating the best bikes that are super fun to ride, as with the Wreckoning and the Following, but then they are taking rider feedback to heart and messing around with their deeply held design beliefs to create a bike that settles that all-day trail bike conundrum once and for all. Well, at least until they come up with another amazing bike. But for the moment, the fun will be getting your teeth into the Offering which really jumps out of the gates as being an incredible trail slayer that climbs well and descends like a demon. Talk about very stable genius, this really is one.
All this means is that they have kinda gone back to the drawing board. Though they had been consistently designing their geometries to include a 74.8° seat angle, they realized that folks mixing that seat angle with the X-Low setting of the bike means that it slackened the cockpit to the point of compromising the climbing ability that Evil wanted to be inherent in the bikes’ designs. So they kicked the seat angle up another 2.2° which in a medium for the Offering settles at 77° with 461mm of reach. So you are getting that longer reach without screwing up the handling while climbing.
In fact, this forward climbing position makes serious climbing not only doable, but real fun. Yeah, that’s right. Really serious fun. Meanwhile, the longer wheelbase and increased reach makes this the ideal bike to attack descents with, since you’ll get that perfect position to increase traction and balance, meaning you can go super-fast and brake later. And with the 140mm rear travel married to the 140-150mm travel available up front, you can really plan on slashing through the roughest rock gardens or launch it off some big drops and still feel like you’ll never find the bottom of the suspension. Relying again on Dave Weagle’s DELTA Link system for the suspension with its adjustability, you can still tweak the geometry exactly to suit your needs. The system has been updated as well to reduce weight and increase user-friendliness. The SAG meter on the non-drivetrain side will also make it easy for you to customize your suspension setup.
The frame itself has been made from Unidirectional Carbon with One Piece Molded construction to keep it lightweight and fantastically durable. The internal cable routing for stealth dropper posts offers functionality and clean lines. The rear derailleur and brake routing neatly runs under the top tube while the rear derailleur cable gets routed through the swingarm to avoid any bulging cables getting in the way.
Evil The Offering is the dream bike for anyone who wants to be able to tackle any trail and test all boundaries. It is that sweet-spot shredder that you have dreamed about every time you hit the trails.
