2020 Knolly Warden
Whether you are an aspiring EWS-level rider, or just want to have a fantastic bike to play around in the bike park, the Knolly Warden aluminum 27.5 inch enduro-oriented all mountain bike will be an ideal companion for all types of exciting trails and runs.
Knolly is a brand that commits to finding the best way to keep the most rubber contact with the trail. Traction is key, and it’s something that you’ll get loads of with the combination of suspension and geometry choices that they give this Warden. By updating their clever Fourby4 suspension platform, Knolly has focused on keeping the pedaling performance over the roughest chudder without having to worry about losing the grip. The Fourby4 system may look complicated, but it has been developed to keep as much of the mechanics accessible and highly tunable rate curves and leverage ratios according to the needs of the various frames in the Knolly line-up, trail, all-mountain or downhill. The Fourby4 system makes it possible to control the wheel rate independently of the shock rate, which means you’re never compromising on traction whether climbing or descending.
This version of the Knolly has been designed around 160mm travel front and rear, which they then pair with a suitably progressive geometry. First off, the Warden can be set at two different shock mount positions. Neutral will set the head tube angle at 65.5° while the slack setting will reduce that angle to 64.75° and drop the bottom bracket by about 10mm, making the suspension that much more progressive. And changing between these two positions is super easy taking just a minute with an Allen wrench. The rear spacing on the Warden has been increased to 157mm, which means that the frame can accommodate up to 27.5 x 2.8 inch tires.
Sticking with the 27.5 inch wheels means that the Warden will float in that sweet spot when descending: totally in control but so flickable for that ultra-important fun factor. Durability is also key. Since the high-quality aluminum frame has been made with 6066 aluminum tubing, it offers a high tensile strength, excellent elasticity and resistance to corrosion that will ensure the Warden an extremely high level of durability. Hydroforming the tubes to precise standards is where the magic happens really, and is the reason all alu frames are not created equal. For the Warden, Knolly has tweaked it to achieve the perfect balance of strength, weight and responsiveness.
Knolly runs the cable internally through the front triangle until it pops out behind the seat mast by the lower link of the Fourby4. They offer e-type as well as ISCG05 mounts for chain guides, and have made the frames to accommodate Di2 wiring. The Knolly Warden 27.5 inch all mountain bike will keep you planted on your path, giving you the confidence to push yourself a little harder.
