2020 Orbea Alma OMR
When you really want to attack your XC courses and know you are getting every ounce of power out of your pedal stroke, the Orbea Alma OMR hardtail cross country racer with 100mm of front travel will be up to the challenge. Just find your dream trail and this will be your dream bike to tackle it.
As the OMR or Orbea Monocoque Race version of the Alma, this is the bike that makes use of the greatest level of innovative design and build techniques. Monocoque, yes, but monocoque layered in a way that will keep it lightweight for those endless climbs and durable for the high-speed descending. Even Orbea calls this a complex and painstaking process since they are making great efforts not to layer even one thin strip of carbon more than they need.
Keeping the weight down is probably one reason you are even considering a hardtail instead of one of Orbea’s full suspension trail bikes. But you don’t have to worry that you are sacrificing comfort or effective traction in rough situations because Orbea has designed the top tube to take the slightest extra little bend as it approaches the seat tube. It’s just the tiniest little curve which Orbea calls their 4×4 structure. It accomplishes a number of different things. First, the extra bend offers an additional flex point that will help absorb the trail hits keeping your tires tracking the ground, and saving your backside from the woes of rough vibrations. And then it allows the top tube to hit lower down on the seat tube, flowing neatly into the seatstays, and tightening up the rear triangle. It’s a clever method to get you the compliance you need while also increasing how stiff and responsive the rear end will feel.
Since the Alma OMR comes with Boost, you can start to think big in terms of the types of tires you can use. Orbea has also expanded their Big Wheel line with the Alma, meaning that all four sizes will be available with 29 inch wheels, with the small and medium sizes still being available with the smaller 27.5 inch wheels. They want to make certain that all riders, no matter how tall, will have the type of rollover and handling they prefer. With that in mind, they have also incorporated their World Cup Geometry which will be aggressive enough for those important races, while slackening the head angle, you can feel super stable on demanding descents. But the steep seat angle will work with the lower stack height to increase the precision of the handling. Shorter chainstays will then keep the whole level of nippy acceleration that is essential for race winning attacks.
With internal cable routing, including for a dropper seat post, the Orbea Alma OMR will be ready for any XC or trail riding adventure you can find.
