2020 Orbea Oiz OMR
If you are serious about your XC performance, and trying to decide between a hard tail and full suspension, just remember that you’ll be facing a lot of trails that are tough enough that you’ll really benefit from the added traction and control a full suspension can give you. And when you opt for the Orbea Oiz OMR, you will be getting such a lightweight and responsive XC and marathon 29er that you won’t feel any twinge of regret on those long climbs where low weight can play a big role.
Since this is the OMR version of the Oiz, you can be certain that this is a race-ready monocoque carbon frame that is able to stand up to the so of rough territory that you’ll be facing whether you are training for a Leadville 100 or just keen to shred some of your local trails. This Orbea Monocoque Race frame has been treated to a special layup process that makes certain the exactly right amount of carbon is used, and no more, so that weight is not compromised, but neither is durability. And something new to this Oiz OMR is just how versatile Orbea has designed the setup options to be. They have designed the bike so you can have it as a purebred XC racing machine, or beef it up ever so slightly so that you can attack the trails like a real shredder.
They have accomplished this a couple of different ways. By looking at the kinematics and allowing the bike to run either a 190x40mm or a 190x45mm shock, it means that you can go with a 100 or 120mm shock at the rear. This is possible because they are working with Fox to integrate the shock into the design of the carbon frame with what they call their Fiberlink to work with the Orbea UFO suspension that works with the thin and flexible seatstays instead of the rear pivot. This is a design that saves weight – up to 140g just on the rear pivot alone – and then also makes possible another neat feature of the Oiz. With the shock mounting at the front actually worked into the shape of the frame, something Orbea calls their Inside Line, not only does this give a clean appearance and function of the shock and its lockout, but also leaves room for two water bottle cage mounts in the inside of the main triangle, for sizes medium on up.
The increasingly progressive geometry that Orbea has given the Oiz OMR will help it work very well with either shock configuration: whether you are running the lightest possible option with 100mm in rear or 120mm to convert this into a fast thinking trail machine, the World Cup ready geo will feel balanced and offer snappy handling with a 69° head angle and 75° seat angle with 100mm travel. For 120mm rear travel, those numbers change by one degree with the head angle ending up being 68° and the seat angle 74°. And though all four sizes are available in 29 inch wheels, size small is also offered in a 27.5 inch wheel variant since Orbea recognizes that some smaller riders might not feel the full benefit of the bigger wheels, and may prefer the advantages the 27.5s offer.
With fully internal cable routing and dropper post compatible, the Oiz OMR can be kitted out with the latest and greatest groupsets. It is 1x specific and has been designed with Boost spacing, so you can really enjoy the sort of gearing and traction that will get you up the steepest mountain climbs.
The Orbea Oiz OMR is available in four sizes and three stock colors, though you can also customize your look through the MyO program Orbea makes available to its top line bikes. That way you can enjoy looking at your bike as much as you enjoy riding it.
