2020 Orbea Rallon OMR
They say the slower you go, the more likely you are to crash when shooting down a steep run. The Orbea Rallon OMR enduro-machine offers all the solutions you’ll need to feel confident enough to take an aggressive line down those steep chutes.
The Rallon can handle the roughest stuff, designed around a rear suspension travel of 160mm and front suspension for 170mm, this is a bike that can take the biggest hits. The durability mixed with excellent weight savings will ensure that this is a bike that is as fun to climb as descend, which is so important for those enduro events. And with any top-quality enduro bike, there is a lot going on, a lot that has to fit into a limited space, look good and function great. Orbea has developed several novel and seriously effective solutions to the complicated real estate around the rear suspension.
This is a monocoque carbon frame worked around an EPS core to avoid folds and voids that makes clever use of all Orbea’s know-how when working with layups. In this case, they have taken an asymmetric shape and applied it to the frame, not just to absorb greater forces on the drivetrain side – which it does do – but to give the shock running more or less parallel to the line of the top tube, more room and easy access to the damper controls. That in turn frees up enough space for a water bottle and cage as well as a tool bag tucked in at the curve of the seat tube and bottom bracket. It’s an ingenious design that not only increases strength, saves weight, and eases access to those fiddly bits on the shock, but makes the Rallon OMR much more functional as an all day adventure bike.
The way they can offset the shock also allows for a lower standover space, which will give you tons of room to maneuver. The geometry of the bike has been given what Orbea calls their Pure Enduro Geometry, which means you’ll get a slack head angle, long wheel base, a steep seat angle and short chainstays to offer great stability and balance while distributing the weight perfectly. This is a machine to take at speed through the roughest patches with confidence. They have also allowed for a certain adjustment to the geometry when you rotate the shock mount pin. That will drop the bottom bracket by 7mm and slacken the angles by 0.5° Combine this with the concentric Boost suspension allows for the kinematics to offer efficient pedaling while remaining sensitive to small bumps and eating up rougher stuff with progressive suspension. The offset pivot link in the design makes this possible by reducing pedaling energy loss while making sure the seat stays and linkage are perfectly positioned to provide the ideal progressivity in absorbing the hits.
Internal cable routing, including for the dropper post, will keep the lines smooth and look clean and the frame can accommodate a ISCG05 chain guide. The Orbea Rallon OMR will get you through serious enduro races equally well as those afternoons you just want to have fun goofing off on your favorite trails.
